Basic information

A part of doctoral studies takes place at an institution abroad. The length of such a stay is at least 30 days, in accordance with the Government Decree No. 274/2016 Coll. and Individual Study Plan (ISP); however, the faculty may determine a longer minimum period of the stay.

When planning an international stay, we recommend taking into account:

Funding

Stays abroad of PhD candidates are usually financed from a scholarship under a faculty scholarship programmes, or as the case may be, by the Erasmus+ scheme, Ceepus, Freemover, etc., from projects or scholarships under one of the faculty scholarship programs.

However, the mobility can also be organized as a business trip, and you can obtain external funding from government and foundation grants and scholarship programmes.

Some funding tips

Communication

Communication is crucial. PhD candidates are advised to communicate with the supervisor, the head of the department and faculty department responsible for doctoral studies well in advance to find the best way to carry out the mobility.

The following must be considered:

  • dates
  • content
  • target institution
  • budget and funding
  • fulfilling study and working obligations during the stay abroad
Records

All stays abroad, regardless of their length or purpose, must be registered in advance by the PhD candidate in the IS MU Internships and Stays application.

Stays which are part of on-going cooperation, such as cotutelle, are registered by the faculty department responsible for doctoral studies.

If you spend a continuous period of at least three months in another European country as part of your doctoral studies, you can apply for the creation of conditions for the European Doctorate. Detailed requirements for its award are defined in Section 35 of the SE Regulations.
