Form and language of the diploma and diploma supplement

Proof of successful completion of a doctoral degree programme is provided by a university diploma and the accompanying diploma supplement.

  •  In accordance with Section 15(5) of the SE Regulations, the diploma is in the language of the relevant programme (i.e. the language in which the programme is accredited). At the request of a graduate, the faculty shall provide a translation of their diploma into English or Czech, including the faculty stamp and authorized person’s signature (please note that this is not a certified translation).
  • The diploma supplement is issued bilingually (in Czech and English) and is normally issued only in electronic form. Upon request, the faculty department administering the doctoral studies can also issue a diploma supplement in printed form.

Graduation ceremony and diploma award

The diploma can be awarded at the graduation ceremony or obtained in the Centre for Doctoral Studies and Academic Affairs (PhD Centre) at the Rector’s Office.

Attending the graduation ceremony

Doctoral graduation ceremonies are held twice a year:

  • in the spring semester at the turn of March and April,
  • in the autumn semester at the turn of September and October.

The graduates are addressed by the Centre for Doctoral Studies and Academic Affairs (PhD Centre) and assigned a certain date well in advance. An invitation with all the information is sent to the graduates approximately 4 weeks before the ceremony. RSVP is important and binding.

The ceremony is held in the Karel Engliš Auditorium in the Faculty of Law building at 70 Veveří Street and takes about an hour. Approximately 150 graduates are divided into groups, the first one starting at 9 am and the last one at 2 pm. The graduates are divided according to their faculties.

There is no limit to the number of guests. The graduates are dressed in gowns that are ready for them on the spot. Headwear is not part of the academic dress of doctoral graduates at Masaryk University.

You can get information about the dates or the ceremony itself from Mgr. Tereza Dvořáková, coordinator of ceremonies and awards.
