MUNI PhD Career Days 2022
What are the options after successfully completing a PhD? An academic career, starting your own business... or an international internship? Where do you go next? We searched for answers to these (and many other) questions with PhD and Master's students at the first MUNI Ph.D. Career Days.
The pilot edition of MUNI Ph.D. Career Days took place from November 23–25, 2022. Over the course of three days, students learned from experienced lecturers in individual workshops how to plan a scientific career step-by-step, launch their own business, or how to proceed if interested in a postdoc position abroad.
An important part of the Career Days was the event called Career Fair. During the afternoon, students met with representatives from various organizations at the Scala cinema who presented potential career paths for PhD graduates based on their own experiences. For the first edition, we were joined by speakers from Czexpats in Science, JIC, the MUNI Career Centre, the MUNI Technology Transfer Centre, MUNI Open Science, and, last but not least, the Czech Academy of Sciences. Following the introductory presentations, students had the opportunity to engage in informal discussions with the speakers in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Based on positive feedback not only from students but also from lecturers, we have decided to build an annual tradition out of the MUNI Ph.D. Career Days. The purpose of the event is to provide students with a view of the diversity of career opportunities available after successfully completing doctoral studies. However, the event is not only intended for PhD students but also for Master's students who are considering a doctorate and would like to learn more about possible future options. In line with the concept of doctoral studies, the Career Days were held (and will continue to be held) in English.
